Celebrating National Black Girl Day Off: Prioritizing Rest, Reflection, and Self-Care

In a world where Black women are often expected to carry the weight of the world, the need for rest, restoration, and intentional self-care is more important than ever. That’s why National Black Girl Day Off was created—a day dedicated to giving Black women permission to pause, breathe, and take a break from the constant demands of life. This day isn’t just about rest; it’s about reclaiming time, prioritizing mental health, and honoring the power of relaxation and rejuvenation.

Why National Black Girl Day Off Was Created

National Black Girl Day Off was Founded by Tomeka Casanova in 2020  to provide Black women with a space to focus on their well-being. It acknowledges that, for generations, Black women have often been the backbone of their families, communities, and workplaces, constantly showing up for others while sometimes neglecting their own needs. The day serves as a reminder that rest is not a luxury, but a necessity.

By creating a space for rest, reflection, and joy, National Black Girl Day Off allows Black women to take intentional time for themselves, to decompress, and to engage in activities that replenish their spirit. Whether it’s through meditative practices, spending time with loved ones, or simply doing nothing at all, this day is about reclaiming self-care and honoring mental and emotional wellness.

How Dejha B Coloring Books Can Help You Relax

One of the best ways to unwind and focus on your mental health is through creative expression, and coloring is a perfect activity for that. At Dejha B Coloring, we believe that coloring isn’t just for kids—it’s a powerful tool for adults to relax, reflect, and practice mindfulness. Our coloring books are designed with themes that inspire positivity, creativity, and cultural pride, making them an ideal companion for National Black Girl Day Off.

Here’s how you can incorporate Dejha B Coloring books into your day of rest:

1. Create a Calming Space

Set aside a cozy corner where you can unwind with one of our coloring books, like HairStory, which celebrates the beauty and diversity of Black hair, or Shades of Love, which honors love in all its beautiful forms. Light some candles, play your favorite relaxing music, and let your mind drift as you color.

2. Practice Mindfulness

Coloring is an excellent way to be present and practice mindfulness. As you fill in the lines, focus on each stroke, each color, and the peacefulness it brings. Coloring can help quiet your mind and relieve stress, allowing you to fully embrace the spirit of National Black Girl Day Off.

3. Reflect with Positive Affirmations

Many of our books, like Hello Beautiful, Someone is Praying for You, include positive affirmations that encourage self-love and empowerment. As you color, take time to read the affirmations and reflect on your own strength, beauty, and worth.

4. Connect with Your Inner Child

There’s something wonderfully nostalgic and freeing about picking up a coloring book as an adult. It reminds us of simpler times and allows us to tap into the joy of creating without pressure. Give yourself permission to play, to relax, and to enjoy the process of bringing the pages to life with your creativity.

Rest and Creativity: A Perfect Balance

On National Black Girl Day Off, it’s essential to not only rest your body but to nourish your mind and spirit. Coloring offers the perfect balance—it’s meditative, creative, and calming. It gives you a chance to slow down, breathe, and be intentional with your time. Whether you spend five minutes or five hours coloring, you’ll feel the restorative benefits.

This year, as you celebrate National Black Girl Day Off, we encourage you to take a moment for yourself, grab your favorite Dejha B Coloring book, and let your creativity flow. Remember, you deserve this time to rest, to heal, and to honor the beautiful person you are.
